An established pond with a good mix of plants and insect life is a great source of natural food for pond fish but a good quality pond fish food is required to ensure they have a healthy balanced diet of the correct quantity. There are a number of different types available offering different combinations, protein quantities and specially formulated for particular breeds. By feeding correctly you ensure good fish health and growth during the spring and summer months while maintaining strength through the winter.
Winter feeding must be done using a specific food type. When the water temperature is between 5-8 degrees in early spring and autumn and the fish are hunting for food you can feed them a specific spring /autumn mix or feed them the staple winter food wheat germ. Feeding once a day is more than enough.
During winter only feed your fish wheat germ if they are looking hungry or thin. Once the temperature consistently is above 6-8 degrees then you can change to a summer food and feed them one to three times a day making sure that very little food is left over. If there is any leftover it is worth netting it out as it can adversely affect the water quality. Feeding rings are a really easy method of localising the food so that it doesn't float all over the pond We have a large range of all different pond fish food available! Whether you are after the standard flake pond fish food for your goldfish or are looking for something special for those koi we have a large range on offer.
